Michael K. Photography 2012 Promo Video

Here is my promo video for Michael K. Photography. This gives a good visual to exactly what I do and why I do it. It’s a culmination of footage over the past few years of me photographing and filming weddings. Shot with Canon 5D Mark II, Canon 60D, Canon 7D, Gopro HD Hero 2, Canon XA10, and Canon XF100 and edited with Final Cut Pro X. I hope you like it!

Our New Studio, A Sneak Peek

Here is a snapshot of our new Studio. It’s not finished yet, but it’s getting there. More to come later!

Eglin Air Show 2010 – 75th Anniversary

So I figured today would be a good day for this blog post, in honor of Memorial Day. About a month ago, I had the privilege of attending the Eglin Air Show on April 11th. This was my first ever air show, so I figured I’d bring a camera and tripod along, and I’m really glad I did. I decided to take the Canon 7D because it can shoot at 8 frames per second, very fast for a DSLR. I was quite happy with the results, very sharp. I shot about 1,600 images, most of which are fast action shots of the fighter jets. The camera kept up with no problem at all, it sounded like a little machine gun! I’m a huge techno-geek so I LOVE stuff like this!

The highlight of the day was the United States Air Force’s Thunderbirds. They were amazing! I can’t believe how skilled those pilots are. They pushed the limits big time. You’ll see in some of the photos how close they actually fly to each other. Unbelievable. Anyways, here is a few of the highlights of the day.

Love this shot! Top Gun anybody????

See, I told you they fly super close!

It looked like they were going to collide right here…

No, this is not a photoshop trick! They actually flew perfectly inverted! Those pilots might have the coolest job in the world.

It’s a plane, no, it’s a helicopter. No, it’s the V-22 Osprey. Sweet.

How cool is that?

Oh yeah, I found this video on YouTube that somebody filmed that day of the F-22 Raptor. That is the craziest fighter jet ever! This thing just about defies the laws of physics. Watch this video to see what it can do. It’s ridiculous!

Candice and Doug Get Married! 3-26-10

If you remember a while back, I blogged about Candice and Doug’s engagement session in New Orleans. Click HERE to check them out if you haven’t already. Well, they finally tied the knot back here in sunny Destin, Florida at Henderson Park Inn on Friday March 26th, 2010. It was a very intimate wedding, immediate family only. They didn’t want a BIG POW WOW, just a beautiful ceremony with their closest family and a private dinner afterwards at Mullhollows Bistro 215 in Fort Walton Beach. Just a side note, I absolutely LOVE the food there, by the way!

As you might already know, Candice is my other photographer that shoots weddings with me. So for some reason, I felt like I had this extra pressure to really nail these shots for her wedding. I didn’t tell her this, but I was actually a little nervous to shoot her wedding. That sounds crazy, I know, but it’s the truth!! You see, Candice is right along side of me shooting all of our weddings, so she knows my style and has seen most of my photos. This is the primary reason that I was kinda nervous for her wedding, I really wanted to get some shots that she had never seen before. This is where the “extra” pressure came in, but it was all in my own head! The funny thing is, Candice is so laid back and easy going that she would never put any pressure on me. She knew, that I knew, exactly what she likes in modern wedding photography ( if that makes sense?? ). The bottom line is…. she trusted in ME. The result? Mission accomplished! This is probably my favorite work to date, no kidding. I can’t even pick a single favorite image because I have too many!  I think they are quite happy with the photos, as am I. Have a lookie! Oh yeah, leave me a comment, I would love some feedback.

and this one…

oh, and this one too

love this shot too!

I thought these shots were pretty funny! And, suiting, since Candice is a photographer.

Like I said, it’s impossible to pick a single favorite image, but this is ONE of my faves! LOVE this pic!

Candice likes different and funky, so I thought this photo was fitting.

I love their ring shots! I shot this with my favorite lens. The macro lens.

This pic is hilarious! Candice and Doug just happened to forget a cake knife, so they had to borrow a butcher knife from the restaurant to do their cake cutting. Nice.

Vegas Baby!!!

So, wedding season officially started for me last month. I must say I am excited to be back in the groove of things. Not only did wedding season get kicked off, but I also made a trip to Vegas for WPPI (Wedding and Portrait Photographer International) the first week in March. It was my first time for both, and I had a BLAST! I learned so much and I honestly can’t wait to get back next year. Since it has been quite a while since I last blogged, I figured I would start off by sharing some pics I got from Vegas. Check back in a few days for some pictures from one of my first weddings of the year.

This is the Stratosphere. I may not look like it in this pic, but this thing is actually 110 stories tall- huge!

Here is one of the rides on the top of Stratosphere…which I did NOT ride by the way (too chicken)!

This is Vegas’ version of the Eiffel Tower, which is at the Paris Casino.

I had to take a pic of the spiral escalator- whoa! I’ve never seen one of those before!

NOLA Trip: Part I

So, last month my assistant, Candice, and I visited New Orleans for the Pictage Partner Conference. We were so excited to go! Not only was it our first time to be a part of the Pictage Conference, but it was our very first time to visit New Orleans as well! We had a blast! The entire conference was three days, and each day we attended work shops of our choice to sharpen up on our photog skills. On the last day, we actually got to participate in a hands-on photo shoot with Grant Oaks, a professional photographer based out of Denver, Colorada. We loved the workshops, but I would have to say that the hands-on shoot was our favorite. It was just a really cool experience. We got to walk the streets of New Orleans and shoot a model named Karen. She was absolutely stunning!

It was really hard to pick a favorite with this shoot…as I’m sure you can tell! This is definitely one of my lengthier blog posts. We got some good shots for sure. It was kind of neat to work with an actual model. She pretty much just did her thing. No one really had to tell her what to do. It’s always fun to direct people on wedding days and everything, but it was refreshing not to really have to say much and just snap away. I also thought it was really cool to be at a photo shoot with more than just one or two photographers…there were 20 of us! I don’t think that I’ve been around so many photographers at one time in my life. It was a good time. Below are some pics of Candice and I during the photo shoot.

I think these last few would have to be my favorites. I thought the location was beautiful and that it kind of gave it a “high fashion bridal” look. If there even is such a thing as a “high fashion bridal” look! I hope you enjoyed this post. I have tons more pics from the NOLA trip as well…more from the conference and pics that we took while site seeing. So, check back.

It’s Been a While

Hey everyone! Sorry to leave you without a new blog post for over a month! I thought that May was a busy month for weddings…boy was I wrong! September and October have been nonstop. I will be doing a new post later on this week and I will keep them comin’ for a while. I have tons of pictures to post from the past couple of months…not to mention I have a New Orleans trip coming up soon. Super excited about it this trip. I am going there for the Pictage Partner Conference…and I have never been there before! I can’t wait! It will definitely be something different. Be sure to check back later this week for the new post!!!

Digital Graffiti 2009

A few weeks ago, on June 6th, some friends and I went to the 2nd annual Digital Graffiti Festival at Alys Beach. It was amazing! I didn’t get a chance to make it last year and I’m so glad I got to go this year. I can’t say that I’ve experienced anything like it before. There were digital artists from all over the world, as well as local artisits displaying their work…it was so incredibly inspiring! Take a look at some of the pics.
